YEAR: 2020

Personal projects. Photography. Death. Tarot. Symbolism. Gloomy

Vanitas Vanitatum, Omnia Vanitas
"Vanity of vanities, everything is vanity."

The Vanitas series arises as a response to hyperconsumption, the quintessential characteristic of modernity. We must ask ourselves: Why has consumption become the only path to achieving happiness, or rather, why does it increase emptiness?

Using the iconography of death and symbols with indexed elements, a re-signification is made, proposing various interpretations. Each image addresses a different theme, yet all revolve around death in relation to hyperconsumption, with clear roots in semiotics.

As a subgenre of still life, Vanitas is distinguished by its emphasis on memento mori, presenting tensions that confront the viewer with their own finitude. In this series, in addition to that confrontation, there is an invitation to vitalism—a balm against the harshness of life.
